Legacy Foundation provides grants for homeless students

BULLHEAD CITY – Homeless students who may be food-deprived during local schools’ winter break will get some needed help, thanks to a grant from the BHHS Legacy Foundation. The Bullhead City School District plans to use the $2,000 donation primarily to stock a food pantry.

As of early December, a total of 91 BCSD students were considered homeless under federal guidelines signed into law by former President Ronald Reagan. Several dozen more siblings of BCSD students are not yet in school, but will be included in the assistance.

Some of the Legacy grant monies will also be used to help clothe homeless students. Legacy Foundation also provided a comparable grant to the Colorado River Union High School District. Both districts often have homeless students in the same family.

Student homelessness is defined in the federal McKinney-Vento Act. Additional information about helping BCSD homeless students is available by calling 928-758-3961, ext. 1026.
