City Extends Availability of Sandbags for Storm Preparedness

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., UPDATE August 20, 2024 – The City of Bullhead City is extending the window for community members to grab free sandbags to protect their property this monsoon season to Thursday, August 22.

“The City still has sand available,” said Bullhead City Manager Toby Cotter. “We’re going to keep providing the sand for a few more days in case anyone still needs any.”

The free sandbags are limited to ten per household and are available to all local households.

Sand remains available for pickup each day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. until the end of Thursday, August 22, at Bullhead City’s Rotary Park, under the large Ramada just north of Firebird Field. Staff is on-site to assist each day.

“We hope everyone who needs it takes advantage of the assistance before the weather reports say it’s necessary,” said Cotter. “Our monsoonal weather can be unpredictable.”

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., August 5, 2024 – The City of Bullhead City is providing free sandbags to the community in preparation for the monsoon season.

“We just want to be proactive,” said Bullhead City Manager Toby Cotter. “Last year we started providing sand when the National Weather Service warned us we were in the path of a hurricane, and the community only had a few days to prepare. This year, we’re putting out sand now to be ready for anything the monsoon season might throw at us.”

The free sandbags are limited to ten per household and are available to all local households.

“Our primary goal is to help our residents,” said Cotter. “However, we know there may be people in Ft Mohave and Laughlin who need sand as well, and they’re welcome to ten bags.”

Similar to last year, the sand will be available for pickup at Bullhead City’s Rotary Park, under the large Ramada just north of Firebird Field. It will be provided on a self-serve basis, with staff on-site to provide assistance.

Different from last year, the sand will be available for pickup starting Tuesday, August 6, through Tuesday, August 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekends.

“We hope everyone who needs it takes advantage of the assistance before the weather reports say it’s necessary,” said Cotter. “Our monsoonal weather can be unpredictable.”
