MCC fire science program application now open, deadline March 31

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Fire Science Program application is now open! The program offers students the skills and hands-on training needed to pursue careers in fire service, emergency response, and related fields.

The Fire Science program is designed to equip students with the critical knowledge and practical experience required to succeed as firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), fire inspectors, and other public safety professionals.

“A career in the fire service can be one of the most rewarding careers because it allows you to help people in their time of need,” said Daniel Zandvliet, Fire Science program manager. “If you have a desire to serve your community, and help people in their time of need, then a career in the fire service could be for you.”

The curriculum covers essential topics such as fire behavior, hazardous materials management, fire prevention and investigation, emergency medical response, and leadership in emergency situations. Students also benefit from on-campus training and internship opportunities with local fire departments.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The program offers flexible scheduling options, including day, evening, and online courses to accommodate a variety of student needs. The program offers degree and certificate options, which are designed for fire service professionals who want to enhance their technical competencies or increase their prospects for career advancement.

“With many local area fire departments having current or future open positions, a career could be obtained with great pay and benefits,” Zandvliet said.

Applications for the Fire Science Program are being accepted through March 31, 2025. For more information about the program, and to access the application, visit Mohave.edu/Fire-Science.
