Bullhead City Swears in New Mayor and Council Member

Bullhead City, AZ — July 16, 2025 — At the July 15 Council meeting, Pamela Smith was sworn in as City Council Member to fill former Mayor Jonathan D’Amico’s seat, and Council Member Rodney Head was appointed Mayor, serving the remainder of the term through November 2026.

Former Mayor’s Transition to MPO Director

On June 5, 2025, Mayor Jonathan D’Amico resigned to become Director of the Bullhead City Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). His departure created simultaneous vacancies on the City Council and in the mayor’s office, triggering the Council’s appointment process.

Appointment Process

During a special session on July 8, the Council interviewed ten applicants for the open Council seat. Community leader and educator Pamela Smith was unanimously chosen to complete D’Amico’s term, which expires November 2026.

With Smith sworn in at the start of the July 15 meeting, the Council immediately voted to appoint Rodney Head as Mayor. Head will serve until November 2026, when the next mayoral election is held.

Leadership Terms and Responsibilities

Rodney Head’s elected term as Council Member runs through November 2028. If he chooses to run for Mayor in August 2026 and wins, he must resign his Council seat. If not, he will resume his Council Member duties at the end of his mayoral appointment.

“If Mayor Head chooses to run for reelection as Mayor, he will have to resign from his elected term as Council Member,” explained Mackenzie Covert, Public Information Officer.
