Bullhead Animal Shelter to Open Extended Hours on July 13

Bullhead City, AZ — July 10, 2025 — The Bullhead City Animal Shelter will open its doors this Sunday, July 13, from noon to 3:00 p.m. (when it’s normally closed), as part of a special initiative to help clear overcrowding and find loving homes for more pets.

Sunday Special Adoption Hours

For one day only, the shelter’s public viewing hours will extend beyond its regular schedule to accommodate adopters who can’t visit during the week. Doors open at 12:00 p.m. and close promptly at 3:00 p.m..

“We’re committed to helping these pets find loving homes in any way we can,” said Animal Shelter Manager Alyson Harms. “We’re currently over capacity, and we’re a no‑kill shelter—so opening this Sunday gives more families a chance to adopt.”

Free Adoption Sponsorship

Thanks to a generous sponsorship by Swanty’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Bullhead City, the next 20 dogs or cats adopted this Sunday will be completely free. Last month’s promotion saw 30 free adoptions claimed out of 50 sponsored.

Current Shelter Population

The shelter currently houses an abundance of pets in need of forever homes:

  • 25+ dogs and 11 cats available for immediate adoption
  • 1 guinea pig also seeking a new family

Across the facility, nearly 50 dogs and 30 cats await their turn—many arriving through recent rescue partnerships.

Fostering Opportunities

Interested in helping, but not ready to adopt? The City partners with Positive Paws and SAINT to provide foster care. “Fostering keeps animals out of the shelter and gives them a home environment while they wait,” Harms explained.
